The Art and Science of Nature

Nature inspires us all with its seemingly infinite beauty and diversity. Not only is it a pleasure to simply enjoy the natural beauty of this world, but also to try and understand the basic (and often very mathematical) principles that give rise to it. During his career, Wim Hordijk has enthusiastically combined these two passions. Trained as a computer scientist, he has worked in many places all around the world on various research projects aimed at understanding more about how nature works. Collaborating with biologists, physicists, chemists, and mathematicians, he has applied his computational skills to gain a better understanding of some basic principles of life, and to create computer simulations of natural systems based on these principles.
